Purpose & main user community of the library

The library’s primary purpose is to support the teaching, learning and research needs of staff and students of the Highland Theological College. It also serves staff and students of the other academic partners of the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Terms of access

Appointment preferred.

Opening hours

Term time: Mon – Wed 09:00– 17:30, Thur 09:00 – 21:00, Fri 09:00 – 17:00, Vacations 09:00–17:00

Disabled access

Visitors to sign in at reception, who can advise on entry to the library avoiding steps.

Lending to other libraries & visitors

Inter-Site Loans to other academic partners of UHI; CONARLS; Visitors may use the library for reference purposes.

Most of the theological section of the Fort Augustus Benedictine Monastery library (approximately 15,000 volumes) including Migne’s Patrologia; Several thousand volumes of the William Temple Collection from the John Rylands library at the University of Manchester; A significant proportion of the missiological library at St Ninian’s, Crieff; The entire library of Rutherford House in Edinburgh (almost 15,000 volumes).
